The commissioning ceremony of the final three Littoral Mission Vessels (LMV) – RSS Fortitude, RSS Dauntless and RSS Fearless – was officiated by Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs Mrs Josephine Teo on 31 January 2020.

During her speech, Mrs Teo underscored the importance of building up the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), and how the LMVs are quintessentially Singaporean, being designed and built in Singapore by Singaporeans, for Singaporeans. She also highlighted that the LMV’s design has enabled the Navy to overcome manpower limitations: “Testament to our people’s determination to defend our way of life despite our constraints, the vessels are designed to overcome the manpower limitations that the Navy feels more intensely, being the smallest of the three services.”

During a ship tour on RSS Dauntless, Mrs Teo learnt more about the LMV’s features and how they support the Navy in their mission.

As the overall programme manager and systems integrator for the LMV programme, DSTA oversaw various aspects of the ship's design, construction, and integration of different components and systems. Working with RSN and ST Engineering, the team delivered a more capable, faster and mission-flexible ship with better seakeeping endurance.

Senior Programme Manager PO (Naval Systems) Jeffrey Tan emphasised that the milestone was made possible by the combined efforts of everyone who have been part of the team. He added: “We are excited to continue providing our engineering expertise in support of the RSN’s operations.”
