Presented during the IES 57th Annual Dinner on 9 November 2023, the award recognises the USV for being an outstanding engineering project with innovative practices.

Jointly developed with the RSN, DSO National Laboratories and ST Engineering, the team equipped the USV with indigenously developed autonomy solutions, as well as an integrated Command and Control (C2) system to efficiently deal with maritime security threats. With these technologies, the USV can conduct maritime security patrol with just two RSN operators located ashore.

An integrated C2 system, the first-of-its-kind in RSN, was also developed to provide synthesised information within a single interface, giving operators a comprehensive sea situational picture to make more informed and effective decisions. The team also added advanced cybersecurity protection measures like data encryption and automatic detection of anomalies to ensure that the system is well defended against cyber threats.

It is a recognition of the collective effort and hard work the team has put in over the years, to overcome the challenges that come with pushing the boundaries of science and technology.”

He added: “This award is a nod to the team spirit and strong collaboration between DSTA and our industry partners, and one of the many examples of what we can achieve when we put our minds to it!”
