Protecting lives at sea demands precision, coordination and resilience, especially in the complex maritime environments. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF)’s newest addition to its fleet, the Blue Dolphin, is purpose-built to meet these demands. Commissioned on 25 June, 2025, the Blue Dolphin is the first of the two Second-Generation Marine Rescue Vessels (MRV-2G) and marks a significant leap forward in maritime emergency responses capabilities.
The successful delivery of the Blue Dolphin was the result of a close collaboration between DSTA, SCDF, HTX and Penguin Shipyard International. Our DSTA engineers worked closely with these partners to review system design and workflows, and conducted rigorous testing - both in harbour and at sea - to ensure the vessel met operational standards.
Measuring 38 metres in length, the Blue Dolphin is designed to support a wide spectrum of operations, from firefighting and rescue in shallow waters to responding to chemical, biological and radiological threats at sea. This helps to strengthen the SCDF’s ability to act swiftly and safely in complex conditions.
The commissioning ceremony reflected not only the vessel’s readiness to enter active service, but also the dedication of the teams behind it. As the Blue Dolphin begins its watch, it sets a new benchmark for maritime emergency response, enhancing our readiness and reaffirming the shared commitment to keeping Singapore’s water safe.
