DSTAppreciation Week is an annual initiative that reinforces a culture of appreciation at DSTA. It sets aside time for colleagues to acknowledge one another’s contributions and reconnect beyond the pace of day-to-day work.
Throughout the week, colleagues came together to recognise individuals whose efforts often go unseen. Gestures of gratitude were shared generously across teams. Some stepped forward to share their talents, while others showed up to support, encourage and celebrate.
The week created space for staff to feel seen, valued and connected – a reminder that taking time to recognise one another strengthens the relationships that underpin how we work, collaborate and support each other throughout the year.

The DSTAppreciation Awards recognised Unsung Heroes whose steady, behind-the-scenes contributions have made a real difference to their colleagues and teams.

Sweet treats were available for purchase, so staff could gift someone they wanted to thank – small gestures that carried heartfelt appreciation, with proceeds donated to charity.

Colleagues spent time with community beneficiaries, extending the spirit of care beyond the workplace.

A friendly game brought colleagues closer, as staff put their knowledge of one another to the test and shared words of appreciation – in exchange for a drink enjoyed together.

The photo booth was a spot for teams to gather and capture a light-hearted memory of the week together.

The Art Gallery featured artworks by DSTA staff, showcasing creative pursuits beyond the workplace. Colleagues submitted thoughtful reflections on why the pieces resonated with them.

Performers took centre stage at DSTA’s Got Talent, cheered on by fellow colleagues in a show of encouragement and support.

Pre-loved items from staff found new homes at The Thrift Shop, turning decluttering into an act of generosity and sustainability.

Staff tried their hand at upcycling, where discarded plastic is used to create useful keepsakes – a fun activity that gave colleagues time to enjoy a shared moment together during the week.
