DSTA acquired the H225M medium lift helicopters and the CH-47F heavy lift helicopters to replace and refresh the RSAF’s Super Puma helicopters and Chinook CH-47 helicopters which have been in service since 1983 and 1994 respectively. The new helicopters possess better lift and reach capabilities, and will enable the RSAF to meet its lift requirements more efficiently with less manpower.
For the acquisition of the H225M medium lift helicopter, the DSTA team incorporated the display of flight information onto the helmet-mounted display to reduce the pilots’ workload, and further streamlined the new helicopter’s scheduled maintenance requirements.
The team also integrated advanced avionics and capabilities onto the CH-47F to enable greater survivability and better connectivity.
These helicopters will enable the RSAF to perform a wider spectrum of operations in more challenging environments, including search and rescue, medical evacuation, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
