System Architecting is the Art and Science of building System of Systems. A study commissioned by the National University of Singapore stated that the ability to understand, analyze and build large-scale engineering systems is a key high value expertise that would help Singapore maintains a compelling competitive edge. A national strategy to leverage Engineering Systems was put forth and an Engineering Systems Initiative was proposed to be launched.

To raise awareness of the importance of systems architecting among government agencies involved in defence, security, infrastructure and education, the Systems Architecting Seminar was organised. The theme for the event was "Systems Architecting in a Complex World". Local and overseas experts with much experience in large-scale system developments were invited to share their experiences and perspectives.
