Naval Systems & Infrastructure

DSTA plays an important role in the acquisition and deployment of advanced naval vessels, sophisticated equipment, and state-of-the-art technology for the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). By harnessing technologies across various disciplines and collaborating with local and international partners, DSTA has provided the RSN with innovative and customised solutions.

The Formidable-class stealth frigate programme is one such showcase of DSTA's expertise in the management of the development and construction of ships, as well as the integration of their combat systems which include radar, sonar, missiles, guns, torpedos and communication systems. As the overall programme manager and systems integrator, DSTA specified and managed the stealth design, equipped and integrated the frigates with advanced combat systems. These features enable the RSN to perform a wide spectrum of missions and deal with various threats in all dimensions of naval warfare - surface, air and underwater.

DSTA also manages the development and construction of infrastructural facilities. DSTA has harnessed leading-edge technology in the development of Changi Naval Base, an ecologically-friendly base that is equipped with intelligent, state-of-the-art facilities. The highly automated warehouse, the Indirect Seawater Cooling System and the Ice Thermal Storage System developed for this facility have helped to optimise the scarce resource of land and manpower.

Beyond providing solutions for the RSN, DSTA also extends its expertise towards meeting the nation's needs. One example is the development of the floating platform which is an innovative solution to the problem of land shortage. This infrastructural facility is a highly configurable platform on water which provides a cost-effective alternative to meet space requirements for mass-spectator events.
