Building up Singapore's defence construction capabilities
The collaboration among the local defence scientists in an integrated defence development community, and with their overseas partners, have resulted in the build-up of defence capability in Singapore. By harnessing technology as a force multiplier, many innovative solutions were implemented in areas such protective technologies, ammunition storage and underground storage and facilities. These solutions have successfully overcome the severe constraint of limited land space in Singapore. One such innovation is Singapore's first Underground Ammunition Facility (UAF), designed and developed by DSTA. The success of the UAF has since propelled other organisations to explore other underground developments to optimise land use in Singapore. For example, there are ongoing studies to explore the possibility of storing petrochemicals in rock caverns under Jurong Island.
