Thumbs up for underground developments
As the pioneer agency to have designed and developed Singapore's first Underground Ammunition Facility, DSTA hopes that more developers will explore the use of underground space in Singapore. DSTA's Mr Lim Chee Hiong spoke to to a ZB reporter at the 4th Asia Pacific Shock and Impact Loading on Structures (SILOS) conference. The co-chairman of the SILOS conference went on to highlight the advantages of underground facilities such as a higher level of security and safety.

As the pioneer in harnessing leading-edge technology for underground developments, the UAF project team was invited to be featured in FUTURE SPACE, a programme on urban planning. In the programme, the UAF, designed and developed by DSTA, was hailed as an innovative solution to optimise land in Singapore. The programme also gave credit to the UAF project team for leading the way for other organisations to explore the potential of underground facilities.

The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) training simulator, conceptualised by DSTA, makes its debut appearance and the RSAF Open House on 1 - 2 Sep 2001. This will be the first time the public is able to experience the take-off, flying and landing of a virtual UAV. The simulator has saved the RSAF at least $10 million a year in operational and maintenance costs.
