C4I Development
In this complex information age, comprehensive battlespace situation
awareness, achieved through transformational IT solutions, can make a
difference between victory and defeat. Success in warfare goes to the
commander who can see first and see more in the battlespace, and
expeditiously and effectively commands and controls his forces.
At DSTA, our engineering professionals exploit cutting-edge
technologies to develop Command and Control, Communications, Computer
and Intelligence (C4I) solutions to help the Singapore Armed Forces
(SAF) commanders achieve a high state of situation awareness.
Commanders are able to assess the situation in the battlespace more
swiftly and accurately. They also leverage powerful planning and
management tools to plan and execute operations more effectively.
To date, our engineers have successfully upgraded the E-2C airborne
early warning aircraft to enable them to provide comprehensive
surveillance. The Combat Management System (CMS) developed for the
Formidable class of frigates incorporates artificial intelligence for
automation and quick decision, datalinks for real-time communications
and advanced visualisation for situation awareness. With the CMS, the
evaluation of threats are automated based on a set of defined
operational rules. Any potential threat can be detected, classified and
identified speedily, and assigned to the most appropriate weapon system
to eliminate the threat effectively.
DSTA also leverages the latest Modelling and Simulation (M&S)
technologies to provide the SAF with M&S tools to conduct mission
rehearsals, training, as well as experiment with new operational
concepts and warfighting doctrines.
