Air Systems

DSTA acquires and upgrades the next generation of aircraft (fighters, transports, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles) for the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). We envision possibilities, evaluate potential and engineer capabilities in aeronautics.

We work with leading aircraft manufacturers around the world and we deal with state-of-the-art technologies.

Our aeronautical engineers search the world to provide the most technologically-competitive solution to meet MINDEF's air platform needs. They adapt the latest technology to enhance the existing platform's capability and to tailor solutions to meet our specific needs.

As a one-stop provider of engineering service, DSTA:
  • conducts market survey for new aircraft and technologies. For example, our Next Fighter Replacement Programme project team evaluated the best fighters in the world to identify the aircraft which will most suitably meet the Republic of Singapore Air Force's requirements. They conducted an extensive market survey including ground and flight evaluations of these aircraft.

  • Acquires and tailors aircraft and weapon systems capabilities to specific requirements. An example is the acquisition and improvements made to the AH-64D Apache helicopters. A multi-disciplinary team of engineers from DSTA selected the helicopters and then tailored the weapon system capabilities resulting in an enhanced version of the AH-64D with improved electro-optical sights for better search, detection and recognition performance, and a new integrated communications and navigation suite for improved communications.

  • upgrades existing aircraft with the latest technologies to give it a new lease of life.

  • develops local industry capabilities to support the new technologies introduced.
